Parish Council Meeting – October 2025
Glamping Site
A “Glamping” site has been created on the Calmsden Road out of Chedworth and is operating without planning permission or any form of consent, despite its location within a protected landscape. Sections of the grant-funded woodland, planted to support wildlife, have been cleared to install four large glamping cabins and a permanent hardstanding car park has been created. Since the development began, Hares, Deer, English partridge and a pair of Barn Owls once regularly seen on the land have disappeared.
Paths within the protected woodland have been opened and dogs are being allowed to run off lead, adding to the disturbance. Open fires and grey water discharge beside livestock and horse paddocks raise further safety and environmental concerns. The site lies within the Cotswolds National Landscape (AONB), and its continued use raises serious questions about unregulated development in protected countryside. Anyone wishing to know more or raise concerns can contact Cotswold District Council Planning Enforcement, quoting case ref: 25/00227/OTHER.
Speed Limits
Chedworth Parish Council discussed speed limits within the village at the meeting of 13th October. Council resolved that they wished to see 40mph speed limit on Fields Road extended towards the A429 around the sharp Hemplands bend. In addition, the Council would like to explore a lower speed limit at Chedworth Laines, sometimes used as a short cut from the Whiteway.
Seven Tuns Defibrillator
The Seven Tuns Public House had kindly allowed the Parish Council to place a defibrillator
in the porch where it was ideally located for upper Chedworth residents. Unfortunately, the pub is now closed, and the electricity has been switched off. This is a problem as the defibrillator pads have to be kept from freezing and the cabinet has an electric heater which comes on around 2 degrees The Parish Council has contacted the owners Wellington Pubs with a request to restore the power but potentially if power cannot be restored the defibrillator will have to be taken out of use when the frosts come. This will be a last resort, if anyone has any suggestions how to get round the issue please contact the Council.
First Aid Courses
The first aid courses paid for by the Parish Council and organised by Iain Robertson proved extremely popular, the first course filled very quickly and the and a second courses was already oversubscribed by the October meeting. The Council therefore agreed to pay for a third course. If you are interested, please contact Iain or contact the Clerk clerk@chedworthpc.org.uk
Audit
The external Audit has been completed and there were no issues to be brought to Councillors attention. Details of the Audit are on the Parish Council Website.
Verges
The Parish Council continues to manage its verges, a responsibility it took over from Highways several years ago. We aim to continually improve the diversity of wild flower species. Our surveys have shown this is working. During the autumn, we cut the verges in the village and collect the arisings, a process to improve the environment for wild flowers, as well as managing the verges of the whole parish to at least a standard we would get from Highways. This year we are arranging an improvement to the area below the school, seeding it after cutting the scrub.
